• Goal:
    • To onboard folks in 15 minutes, such that they have enough information to join a project, and do additional followup research.
    • New members should feel that:
      • They are welcome
      • They are part of a larger picture
      • They have something to contribute
      • They will accomplish their personal goals
      • They will know what to expect and how to engage

    • Intro:

      • Welcome, I’m [Greg, Executive Director] here at Code for San Francisco
      • Whether you’re new or experienced, my goal for you is that in the next 3 months, you will make a contribution to a civic tech project and post that on your LinkedIn profile.
      • In the next 15 minutes, I’ll give you an overview of who we are, what we do, and what you can accomplish with us.
      • First, one ground rule:
        • We have a code of conduct. https://codeforsanfrancisco.org/about/code-of-conduct/. We are a place where we welcome, value, support, and respect each other. If you feel that is not happening, please reach out to us confidentially to let us know. You can reach the organizing team on slack at @core-team, via email at [email protected], or you can reach out to myself, [Allen, Isabel, Mao Mei].
        • We value the people here and make everyone feel welcome
        • We make room for all brigade members to engage, discuss, and collaborate
        • We support each other to build a strong civic tech community
    • Who we are:

      • We are all volunteers working to improve our community.
      • We are developers, designers, data geeks, citizens, bus riders, cyclists.
      • Some of us are professional techies, many of us are not. You do not have to code to contribute; whatever skill set you have can make a difference.
      • We do not have any applications, we don’t ask for your resume, people have found success here from all backgrounds, technical and non-technical. “We’ve found that any sort of application process can be a barrier to entry…”
      • We are part of the Code for America Network: 80 organizations across the country that build amazing projects
    • What we do

      • We build tech projects that are:
        • Open source
        • Volunteer-driven
        • Not for profit
        • In service of public good
    • What you’ll do

      • We’re an open community, you can join any project call, see what’s going on, and shop before you join.
      • We find that successful members spend 2-3 hours a week outside of hack night, for 3 months. Many do more (or fewer) hours, or joins us for longer. But after that period you’ll be able to see your contribution, and you’ll be able to post on LinkedIn that you were a UX Designer with Code for San Francisco, or a Project Manager with Code for San Francisco, whatever role it is you choose.
      • If you can’t commit to a product right now, that’s ok. Join us in discussions, events, or networking, and when you’re ready to join a product we’ll be ready to have you.
      • If you don’t see any products that resonate with you, or you have your own idea, give us your best pitch. Every product you see was started by someone in our community who saw a problem and had an idea to solve it. You’ll find a link to pitch on our website.
    • Overview of Products
