Countless roles are needed to make a team and product successful. Here are some of our most common, but by no means the only roles we have at SF Civic Tech. You might be a reporter, or a videographer, or anything else. Many members "switch hats" between roles frequently, and if none of these are quite the right fit for you, define your own!
Back-end developers builds the technology behind websites and applications. They create databases, integrate APIs and data, and much more.
Business Analysts research processes, procedures, services and systems to make improvements. They may research how the process for starting a small business, or the best way to onboard a new team member. Communication skills are key, and they can translate technical information to create easily readable documents.
At Code for San Francisco, we find success in projects and as a brigade through partnerships. You're the type of person who enjoys the grind and will send 50 emails to get one positive response. These roles can create new projects, find incredible event partners, and bring great content to our weekly hack nights.
First and foremost, content writers understand their audience, and what they're hoping to accomplish. From there, they craft relevant, engaging content. You might find yourself blogging about a project, writing about the brigade, creating videos and demos, or contributing to this very wiki!
Data scientists compile data and analyze for patterns to develop insights. They may create predictive models, apply tests to better understand user behavior, or any number of applications. If you like asking questions and combing data for the answers, this may be for you.
